TWO-FAMILY VILLA
TWO-FAMILY VILLA
From the inside out
From our very first meeting with the clients, their deep attachment to the garden, plants and the surrounding natural environment has been a recurring theme. Our thinking naturally turned to creating a connection between the building and its immediate surroundings, between the living areas and the various garden spaces.
We therefore designed a south-east facing villa, overlooking the fields and mountains, with living spaces organised around a connection between the living room, kitchen and garden. A true central hub of the house and visible from every angle, this indoor-outdoor relationship is brought to life by large bay windows, giving the illusion that nature is beginning to reclaim its place over the building, and that the garden is gradually encroaching on the kitchen and dining room. The indoor garden can also be separated from the rest of the house, allowing you to fully enjoy the tranquillity of nature without ever having to step outside.
The building comprises two dwellings, one of which is a duplex, with a relatively similar spatial layout. There is even an option to connect the upstairs bedroom and bathroom to the second flat, thereby creating two dwellings of equal size. On both floors, there is a large living area incorporating the kitchen, which is sometimes the focal point and sometimes more discreet, but always with access to the outdoor spaces, without overlooking the neighbour’s terrace. We wanted to offer the same quality of life to a potential tenant as we do to the owners. Here and there, a few hidden spaces—a pantry, storage areas, a guest toilet or a study—are concealed behind secret doors. Simple materials such as wood, cement tiles or polished concrete blend together without regard for the boundaries of the rooms, thus creating links between the different spaces of the house and unifying the volumes, from the interior to the exterior.
