Renovation of a Farmhouse Attic

Renovation of a Farmhouse Attic

From Unused to Essential

This renovation and conversion project for a traditional farmhouse in the Fribourg countryside aims to combine modernity with heritage preservation.

The goal was to successfully create a dialogue between two distinct living spaces within the same home. he reorganization of the existing home’s layout maximized space utilization while optimizing circulation, ensuring that every generation feels at home. The previously unused attic was converted to create a bright and airy living space with a fluid flow of living areas. The kitchen and living room are connected by a fully glazed loggia, which effectively adds an extra room to the home. The integration of this loggia into the facade was intentionally minimalist to avoid altering the distinctive sloping roof typical of traditional farmhouses. This project has given this space a new purpose, adapting it to modern living needs while respecting its history.

Particular attention was paid to preserving typical architectural elements such as exposed beams. hile modernized and adapted to the needs of future generations, the farmhouse will continue to bear witness to the region’s rural history and its preserved natural environment.
