RECONFIGURED LIVING SPACE

When the family grows

Increasing living space often goes hand in hand with a growing family. However, it can also be an opportunity to plan ahead for the future, when the need for space will be less. This involves planning a multi-stage project, carried out as the family evolves.

Initially conceived as a two-unit terraced house, the first stage of the project nevertheless involved an extension to the existing home, adding two further bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living area. Maintaining a connection with the existing home, these rooms are attached to the main house to create a living space for a large family. Looking ahead to the future, when the children ‘grow up’, the parents will then be able to close the two connecting doors separating the old part of the house from the extension and choose which unit to occupy, thereby renting out the second one.
