Minergie and timber frame

An open, welcoming family living space: this was the brief from the clients for this timber-framed villa. With the aim of organising the spaces around a large living area, we designed this home in two distinct parts. Starting from the basic form of a traditional house, we then, on the south side, lowered the roof pitch to allow sunlight to reach the upstairs bedrooms. On the north side, on both the ground floor and the first floor, we grouped the private and utility spaces together to create, beneath the lowered roof, a large open-plan area that brings the living room, dining room and kitchen together in a single space.

With over seventy square metres of living space and ceilings nearly six metres high, this living area takes on proportions more akin to a New York loft than a rural villa. The kitchen, situated at its centre, symbolises the heart of the home, fully open to the living room and dining room. It serves as the gathering point, representing the convivial space around which family life revolves.
