THE FARM OF THE THREE HOMES

THE FARM OF THE THREE HOMES

Taking over a project midway

Taking over a derelict construction site is never a straightforward task.

It all begins with a thorough analysis of the condition of the structures under construction that have been left exposed to the elements. At the same time, we carried out research to gather as much information and as many plans as possible. Subsequently, the updates, modifications and improvements to be made were marked on the plans. Collaboration with a number of companies familiar with the building in question proved invaluable. We identified all the constraints of the existing building that guided our design, taking into account the load-bearing walls and the existing waste water risers. Added to this were issues of water ingress into the adjacent flats that needed to be addressed, and drainage works were carried out to complete the project.

In one of the flats, the choice of an industrial style with a concrete-effect floor, created using large 75 x 150 cm tiles, blends with a genuine red-brick wall that evokes the spirit of the old farmhouse. The electric water-filled fireplace, which creates a subtle flame effect, warms the atmosphere of the large living room.

A spacious family kitchen in petrol blue tones is complemented by a slate splashback, perfect for sharing recipes, and a hob with an integrated extractor hood, leaving the view from the kitchen window unobstructed. The two bathrooms are in very different styles: the first features light tones and 3D wave-effect tiles behind the bath, creating a sense of lightness. As for the other, a private shower room for the master bedroom features a more contrasting design in dark tones with warm lighting.

The challenge in the attic was to maximise the floor space and come up with ingenious ideas to optimise the layout and storage. The 55 m² penthouse apartment has its own entrance with a private staircase that blends seamlessly into the same flooring as the rest of the apartment. The large bay window floods the staircase and living area with light and opens onto a wraparound balcony offering an exceptional 180-degree view of the Alps.

The Scandinavian style makes extensive use of ash wood, whether on the kitchen worktop or in the built-in cupboards in the living room. The simple kitchen adds a touch of nostalgia with its pastel-coloured diamond-patterned tiled splashback and a Staron cupboard running along the worktop to maximise storage space. An LED strip is concealed at the back to provide indirect lighting on the ceiling and a soft glow on the textured splashback. The beige-toned shower room enjoys magnificent light thanks to a large skylight and integrated artificial lighting.

The conversion of La Ferme des 3 Demeures was finally completed in 2018, resulting in four apartments in completely different styles; cosy, family-friendly, Scandinavian, with balconies and balcony-bathrooms facing the Moléson.
